You are invited to participate in a research study about factors that impact completion of nurse leader rounding. This form is part of a process called informed consent to allow you to understand this study before deciding whether to take part.
The study seeks volunteers who:
- Hold the role of nurse managers, assistant managers, nurse directors, assistant nurse directors, or any equivalent role to those listed
- Work at an academic medical center or in a community hospital (not a critical access or private hospital)
- Oversee an inpatient care department that falls into one of the following categories: Medical Surgical, Step-Down/Progressive Care, Pediatrics, or Women’s Health
This study is being conducted by a researcher named Greta Rosler, who is a doctoral student at Walden University.
Study PurposeThe purpose of the study is to identify the factors related to organizations as well as to nurse leaders themselves that contribute to nurse leaders’ ability to complete rounds on patients. Given the challenging nature of nurse leaders’ role and the demands of leadership in inpatient areas, this study aims to reveal opportunities for more support for nurse leaders in participating roles.
ProceduresAfter you consent, this study would involve you completing the following steps:
- Confirm that you qualify by answering a few questions about the study requirements
- Complete an anonymous online survey (approximately 10 minutes)
Here are the types of questions you will be asked (either via multiple choice or via a scale rating):
- What is your organization’s expectation or policy related to the volume of nurse leader rounds that you are expected to complete?
- When trying to learn something new, I soon give up if I am not initially successful.
- How many years of experience do you have in your current role?
Voluntary Nature of the StudyResearch should only be done with those who freely volunteer. So everyone involved will respect your decision to join or not. If you decide to join the study now, you can still change your mind later. You may stop the survey at any time.
Risks and Benefits of Being in the StudyBeing in this study could involve some risk of the minor discomforts that can be encountered in daily life such as sharing sensitive information. With the protections in place, this study would pose minimal risk to your wellbeing. If distress arises, support and referral can be obtained via dialing 988 for a national crisis hotline.
Like most research, this study offers no direct benefits to individual volunteers. The aim of this study is to benefit society by identifying factors that relate to nurse leaders’ ability to complete the important task of nurse leader rounding, thus offering organizations ideas of how to support nurse leaders. Results of this study will be published in Scholarworks and possibly other research sources that are easily found if you search online for the researcher’s name along with the study topic.
PaymentThere are no payments or gifts associated with completion of this survey and participation in the study.
SecurityThe researcher is required to protect your privacy. Research files will be kept secure by password-protection and any future publications will use generic terms or codes to identify organizations, but will not use any organization’s name.
Protecting your nameYour identity will be kept confidential, within the limits of the law. The researcher will not include your name or anything else that could identify you in the study reports. The researcher is only allowed to share your name or contact
