Monticello Main Street is a non-profit with a mission of preserving and revitalizing historic, downtown Monticello. Our organization supports the strategic efforts of the City and all local partners, working to strengthen our business community. As the City of Monticello considers implementing a 1% sales tax on eligible items for the downtown area (a proposed business district), your input is invited. A Business District is a tool often utilized by rural communities to invest in aging infrastructure, public and private improvement projects, and development efforts where revenue streams may not otherwise allow. (The tax will not be on general grocery items, pharmaceutical products, and titled vehicles and equipment.) The revenues are only spent on projects within the area, guided by the objectives identified in an adopted Business District Plan. That's where your feedback comes in! Community input is critical in shaping both the future of how the funds are utilized for future projects within our historic, downtown district, and in how Main Street can target its revitalization efforts for the most impact. By responding to this survey, you are taking an active role in helping build a brighter, more vibrant downtown for our community. Thank you for sharing!
