Certified Floodplain Surveyor

The National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) is looking into the possibility of creating a nationwide program to become a Certified Floodplain Surveyor (CFS) and is trying to determine the interests that state societies would have in such a program.

The course is two and a half days. The second half of the third day is for questions, review and informal discussion. A fourth day is testing. The test is a two-part, four hour exam. The pass rate for the test is only around 50%. If you fail, your required to retake the entire course and pay full fees.  Currently there is no set rate for the cost of the course, and test.

The goal of the program is to provide training to surveyors to enable them to submit completed letters of map change to FEMA in the proper format required to obtain a faster determination. This will include letters of map amendments (LOMA), and elevation certificates.

NSPS is looking for answers to the following questions from all state societies.
