International Forum: Localizing Response to Humanitarian Need

Guidelines for Presentation's Abstract (Deadline: April 30th 2017)

1. Must be written in English
2. Not to exceed 350 words
3. If your abstract is submitted by the deadline April 30th and is accepted you will be contacted with further information on next steps.  

As a reminder, we are looking for evidence based presentations that will feature examples of local faith-based interventions and multi-sector partnerships, along with actionable recommendations for scaling up local faith engagement, in the following areas of humanitarian response:  


  1. Emergency Response: Considering the role of LFCs as first responders and rapid mobilisers. Analyzing current challenges to their greater integration into humanitarian coordinating mechanisms.
  2. Protection: Considering the contribution of LFCs to trauma counseling and psycho-social support, including the role of spirituality and religious ritual. Analyzing different approaches to the safeguarding of vulnerable groups, including children and survivors of gender based violence.
  3. Peacebuilding: the role of religious and faith networks in mediation and peacebuilding 
  4. Delivering aid in conflict: Considering the specific opportunities and challenges offered by religious leaders and LFCs engaging in both humanitarian response and peace-building. Analyzing challenges related to upholding humanitarian norms in complex settings.
  5. Disaster preparedness: Considering innovative approaches to disaster risk reduction and preparedness that utilize faith based narratives. Analyzing the relative strengths and weaknesses of LFCs as sources of community knowledge and organization.
  6. Rights of Forced Migrants: Considering public messaging and political campaigning by religious leaders and LFCs to encourage refugee hosting and dignity. Analysing how effectively LFCs and religious leaders to tackle xenophobia and promote inter-religious cooperation in support of forced migrants.
