Survey on Experiences of OGBV in Malaysia

Help us #PushForward by sharing your experience!

KRYSS Network is a not-for-profit organisation that observes and researches the unequal access to freedom of opinion and expression in Malaysia, particularly for women and marginalised communities. Our work, among others, focuses on ensuring safer online spaces for all peoples to freely express their lived realities, experiences, opinions and thoughts without threats of harassment and violence.

This survey aims to document cases on online gender-based violence (OGBV) as part of our effort to develop evidence and knowledge that could contribute to the elimination of online gender-based violence. OGBV is targeted harassment and prejudice through technology against people, disproportionately women, girls and people from the LGBTQ community, based on their gender.

Please complete a separate form for each incident (or perpetrator) of online gender-based violence.

You are allowed to share as little or as much information as you are comfortable with, recognising that it may be distressing and/or difficult to recount the experiences of OGBV. We thank you for your willingness to help advocate for a Malaysia free of OGBV.
1.Can you briefly share what happened to you? (e.g. What happened? Who was affected? Who was/were the aggressor(s)? When or which year did it happen?)
2.In your case, is/are the aggressor(s) a first-time aggressor for you?
3.Do you know who did this? If you are comfortable explaining further, please feel free to provide additional details such as who they were, their names and/or handles, etc.
4.On which platform(s) did the gender-based violence take place? (You may select more than one platform)
5.If you have any documentation of violating content/online gender-based violence (e.g. screenshots/pictures/videos) that you would like to share with us, you may email them to documentation.kryss@gmail.com . We understand that going through them again may be a traumatising experience for you. Please share only if you feel comfortable….

10.Do you have anything else to add or do you have any questions?
