Please read the requirements carefully.
I am looking for an enthusiastic, organized, detail-oriented, active, and responsible female to work for 8-12 months, with daytime availability between 8am-6pm, starting immediately 2023. I am an active 31-year-old female who has a motor neuron disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and am physically dependent on someone else for all aspects of personal care. I have a Bachelor of Social Work and the successful candidate would support me while I am at work and accompany me to my extracurricular commitments (i.e., board meetings, medical appointments, meeting colleagues and friends). This is a unique opportunity where you will assist me with personal care, complete minor administrative tasks when I am at work, and have fun adventuring Vancouver with me as well (I am a busy professional, but love checking out new coffee shops, going for walks along the seawall, and going to Farmers markets!).
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting me with my active lifestyle and day-to-day tasks both at work, in the community, and in my home
- Personal Care (feeding, dressing, showering, and bladder/bowel care) and completing transfers via mechanical lift or manual lift
- Administering medication
- Completing light household chores
- Performing other tasks as needed to help me live my life independently
Qualifications of a successful applicant:
- Experience working with marginalized populations, specifically Persons with Disabilities, along with some University education (nursing/medical experience is not a requirement)
- Fluent in oral and written English
- Open to an 8-12 month working contract and is willing to work 15-35 hours/week (6-10 hours/day and 2-5 days/week; please specify the number of days you are interested in working when you apply)
- Willing to take direction quickly and can work independently, while respecting the privacy and space of my colleagues and family
I am a responsible employer and have over a decade of experience with hiring, training, and working with my staff. My home is close to the UBC Vancouver campus and is near the R4, 25, 33, 49, and 99 bus lines. I am willing to train individuals who are passionate and like challenges; if you do not have any health care experience, I encourage you to still apply (finding someone who I get along with and share similar interests with is extremely important to me)! Many of my staff are University students who have minimal healthcare experience, but many individuals have goals to pursue healthcare or Graduate studies in the future. This position is a stepping stone to working in the healthcare sector, and many of my staff have shared that this position has been one of the most unique learning opportunities they have ever had.
If you are unsure whether this position is for you, I strongly encourage you to reach out, and I am more than happy to discuss any questions you may have! I look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for your interest in working with me! =)
