Participation Consent

Greetings and thank you for your interest in our research.

In accordance with research ethics guidelines, we need to obtain your informed consent before proceeding. We have prepared a Plain Language Information Statement (PLIS) that fully explains what participation involves.

Please review the provided information. Once you understand what's involved and if you agree to participate, kindly complete and submit the consent form, and select an interview time that works for you from the available options.

Should you have any questions or if there is not a suitable time on this bookings page, please get in touch with Lauren Salajan directly at l.salajan@federation.edu.au. She will do her best to answer any queries and/or arrange an interview time that is more convenient for you.

Thank you again for your time and interest in this research.
Study Information: Exploring Support Needs for Parents of Autistic Individuals

Project Researchers:
  • Distinguished Professor Colette Browning (PhD)
  • Dr Amanda Young (PhD)
  • Distinguished Professor Shane Thomas (PhD)
  • Professor Fadi Charchar (PhD)
  • Professor Britt Klein (PhD)
  • Mrs Lauren Salajan (Psychologist, PhD Candidate)
By submitting this form, I understand that:
  • All information I provide (including interview and questionnaires) will be treated with the strictest confidence and data will be stored separately from any listing that includes my name.
  • Participation in this research is entirely voluntary.
  • If I am a current or former client of Lauren Salajan (psychologist/researcher), my decision to participate, decline, or withdraw from the study will have no impact whatsoever on the therapeutic relationship, the services I receive, or any future support.
  • Aggregated results will be used for research purposes and may be reported in scientific and academic journals.
  • I am free to withdraw my consent at any time during the study in which event my participation in the research study will immediately cease and information/data obtained from it will not be used.
  • I understand the exception to this is if I withdraw after information has been aggregated - it is unable to be individually identified - so from this point it is not possible to withdraw my information/data, although I may still withdraw my consent to participate.
  • I understand that an automatic written transcript of the call will be generated by Teams/Zoom artificial intelligence, for the purpose of identifying themes in the data; I will be offered access to the transcript, and I can make changes (if appropriate) if I want to.
Inclusivity
  • The questions will be provided to you prior to your call so that you will know what to expect.
  • We will send reminders for the follow up survey to be completed. We understand that it is easy to forget things and that gentle reminders can help.
  • If you want your involvement with the project to end after the interview, that is fine, and we will not be offended. Either way, we are so grateful to you for being involved in the research and appreciate your help.
  • We will use the language ‘Autistic’ rather than ‘person with autism’ according to community preferences, but we recognise this is not the preference of everybody.
  • We recognise that historical Autism research has excluded Autistic people and their families and caused trauma. We will work to produce ethical and inclusive research where the priorities, perspectives, and experiences of Autistic people are valued, and Autistic people are involved in the research.
  • We will conduct the research through a neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive human rights framework, recognising the importance of safety and well-being for everyone involved in the project.
  • The research team greatly value the ideas and recommendations of Autistic individuals and those closest to them, and recognises you as lived experience experts.
  • You are encouraged to be your honest, authentic self. You do not have to mask or hide your true opinions.
