Sentinel Providers

Influenza-like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINet), is a collaboration with providers, state health departments, and CDC to conduct surveillance for influenza-like illness. Sentinel providers are composed of a variety of providers all across NC.

Every week sentinel providers report the total number of patients they have seen for any reason and the total number seen with influenza-like illness by age group to CDC and the state. They also submit specimens (NP swabs) for testing to the North Carolina State Laboratory for Public Health. For COVID-19 surveillance providers should submit 10 samples from patients with ILI and 10 samples from asymptomatic patients being seen for other reasons each week (for a total of 20).
