Here's the deal:

Dr. Barron here, putting out a personal call.  I am submitting an essay for the Journal of Medical Humanities.  The title of my article is TAKING THE MEASURE OF MEDICAL HUMANITIES:  WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF MEDICAL HUMANITIES ON BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS?

I am asking you, whether you are my dear former student or whether you were in Medical Humanities at Baylor before I ever arrived--as a personal favor to me and for the sake of your beloved Baylor, to take (at least) FIVE precious minutes (yes I know it is Memorial Day weekend yes I know you just took the shelf exam yes I know I know I know) to respond to whatever grabs you in the five following areas!  Ok maybe 6 minutes.  It’s not like I’m asking you for a kidney.

I am gathering up responses from recent grads, from those in med school and other professional programs like MPH, those in residency and those who are already in practice.  So whether you were a major or a minor or a University Scholar—whatever your connection to Medical Humanities—help me out here.  Quickly scan the next pages and start writing--as much as you want about whatever grabs you.

Do you know what my dream is? My dream is that Baylor’s Medical Humanities Program will be in the headlines of the New York Times, instead of what we’ve been hearing about lately.  Medical Humanities is Baylor at its best.  Help me prove it.

What follows are the five themes I am writing about and it would help tremendously to have your thoughts.  I am hoping to include as much in the voice of students, alums, etc., as possible, with your permission of course!   Here are the five themes:  Critical Thinking, Context and Complementarity, Clinical Relevance, Vocational Calling and Professional Identity

Thanks in advance for anything you are willing to contribute.  I apologize for any cross posting or if you get this two different ways, but I’m blasting it out to the universe, hoping to get that Baylor boomerang going. I've got a June deadline but wanted to reach out to more of you this way, hoping for as many voices as I can add to this article!

·       Did I mention FIVE MINUTES?  Did I mention I wasn’t asking for a kidney?

·       Did I mention you can DICTATE IT TO SIRI in SECONDS?

·       Did I mention BAYLOR AT ITS BEST?

Let me hear from you.  I cannot tell you how exciting this work is and we are going to start publishing about it.  This’ll be my first real contribution to the literature in this realm… but what is most important is the work you are doing on the ground and in your training and in your practice.

Talk to me!
