Nominee for Vice-President (President-elect) of AMWA NorCal

Background: The person holding the position of VP for 2015-2016 will become President of AMWA NorCal in October 2016.

Current decision needed: Myrna Faulds has been nominated for this position. Approval was given by the Board of Directors at their June 22, 2016 meeting. 

Description of candidate:  Myrna’s career has mirrored the industries in the SF Bay Area tech boom: biotech, desktop publishing, web development, and most recently as a content developer focusing on medical devices for biotech and pharma. Myrna received her B.S. in Biology, Concentration: Microbiology from San Francisco State University in the early 80s. Her career began as a research associate in the molecular biology lab of a Brisbane (CA) startup making tPA plasmid constructs for mammalian expression.

Myrna has a work history that includes technical writing, graphic design, and web development. Myrna was the first Technical Writer hired at Clontech Laboratories and went on to develop her skills on numerous pieces of customer-facing marketing and technical writing documentation. Her most recent full-time work was as Sr. Tech Writer for the Animal Health & Food Safety Department at Applied Biosystems (later Life Technologies). She served as a Job Connections SIG Leader for the North Bay Multimedia Association (NBMA), which involved setting up monthly networking events.

        Myrna has enjoyed being an active member of the Northern California Chapter of AMWA, most recently with the Chapter Communications Committee. On weekends Myrna finds it healing to volunteer with the Pacifica Beach Coalition and pick up trash from the beach. She is in the process of starting Green Kids Gardens, an educational nonprofit targeting creation of pollinator habitats by children's groups. In her spare time, she likes to read science fiction books.
