South Central Light Rail Extension
Stakeholder Art Review Committees

APPLICATION
Thank you for your interest in serving on one of the South Central Light Rail Extension Stakeholder Art Review Committees. Please read this form carefully and complete all the sections.
Applications are due Friday, April 6, 2018.

PURPOSE
The success of the Valley Metro Public Art Program depends largely upon strong public participation. Valley Metro and the city of Phoenix are creating two small working groups to participate in the art program for the downtown transfer hub, part of the South Central Light Rail Extension. These working groups, referred to as the Stakeholder Art Review Committees (SARC), will select the artists and review their work as it is developed. The SARCs will work in collaboration with Valley Metro, city of Phoenix and the Valley Metro Regional Rail Arts Committee (RRAC), which oversees Valley Metro’s public art program.

There will be two committees to select three artists. Seven volunteers will be selected to serve on the Station Platforms SARC; they will select a Wayfinding Artist and a Station Enhancement Artist to work together on the three downtown transfer hub stations. Five volunteers will be selected to serve on the Traction Power Substation (TPSS)/ Signal House SARC; they will select an emerging artist to work on the TPSS or Signal House.

The two SARCs will meet to select artists on the following dates:

RESPONSIBILITIES
Each SARC member is expected to attend up to five meetings, which include:
  • Selection of the artist(s). (Meeting dates above)
  • A meet-and-greet/artist workshop with the selected artist(s) to answer their questions and provide community information, history and background, discuss strategies and goals for the art projects. (Meeting dates to be determined).
  • Artwork review at various design stages, including 30%, 60% and 90% design. (Meeting dates to be determined).
Each SARC member is strongly encouraged to:
  • Attend the general public design review meetings (approximately three meetings).
  • Serve as proponents for the art program
  • Serve as representatives for the art program with neighboring community, businesses and/or organizations.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be:
  • A business owner, property owner, or resident adjacent to the route (Portland Street to Buckeye Road/7th St. to 7th Avenue). Non-residents/business/ property owners with demonstrated strong ties to the community will also be considered.
  • A proponent for a strong art presence on the downtown transfer hub section of the South Central Extension.
  • Able to assure they have no financial or other conflicts of interest with artist candidates.
An art background or familiarity with the local/regional art scene is preferred, but not required.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The City of Phoenix, in coordination with Valley Metro, will review applications and select participants. Ideally, applicants will be matched to the SARCs that represent the station/area nearest to where the applicant lives/works/owns property. Depending on the number of applications received and geographic distribution, additional members may be selected.
