Do you have an opinion about generic medicines? We would like to talk to you.

It is common practice for pharmacy staff to ask consumers if they want a generic brand of their prescribed or non-prescription medicines. We are exploring consumer, pharmacy student and pharmacy assistant attitudes towards and knowledge of generics, and to understand the factors that influence their acceptance by consumers. The researchers involved in this project are: Dr Fiona Kelly and Dr Sara McMillan from the School of Pharmacy, Griffith University. We would like to find out your opinions, as a pharmacy assistant.

What is involved? An online survey which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Do I have to participate? No. Participation in any research project is voluntary. If you do not wish to take part you are not obliged to. The survey is anonymous and all information collected is confidential, and your name will not be recorded. If you decide to take part and later change your mind, you are free to withdraw. However, your information can not be withdrawn because the survey is anonymous. Should you wish to enter the prize draw, you will be asked to enter your contact details following completion of the survey, which will be stored separately from the survey response data. Prize draw terms and conditions are outlined at the end of the survey.

Are there any benefits to me? The results of this study will potentially improve our understanding of the perspectives of consumers, pharmacy students and pharmacy assistants on generic medications and the way that this topic is managed in community pharmacy. It will also provide valuable information on the appropriateness of available information on generic medicines. If you complete the survey you are eligible to enter a prize draw for one of two $30 iTunes gift cards.

Are there any risks involved? We do not anticipate there will be any risks to you as a result of your participation. The use of an electronic survey will maintain participant anonymity. Only the research team will have access to this information. The personal information obtained for the purposes of the prize draw will be destroyed once this has been completed. All information will be stored securely at Griffith University, Gold Coast campus. Information you provide for this study will be retained for a period of five years post-publication and then destroyed.

You contact details will be kept separately to your survey responses and there will be no way to link them.
