Welcome

The Challenge is a professional development activity undertaken annually for Local Government Professionals across Australia and New Zealand. The Challenge Skill Set Survey is a simple and effective survey that has been designed to guide you through becoming more effective in the way you:

1. THINK strategically and connect the dots between community vision and council operation.

2. LEAD improvement and influence others to have a positive impact.

3. COMMUNICATE and build trust by sharing your thoughts and understanding others.

4. NEGOTIATE constructively and collaborate to achieve outcomes that meet the needs of each side.

5. ANALYSE information and apply critical thinking skills to discover more than meets the eye.

6. DECIDE with confidence and accurately consider all aspects of any situation.

7. ENGAGE others to create a community of happy citizens!

You will have the opportunity to undertake the survey before your challenge begins and in reflection 2 weeks after the Challenge has been completed.

The survey presents 5 questions under each of the above core competencies.

It asks you to score from 1 - 10 on how true you feel that statement is in relation to you and your leadership
(1 = not true at all and 10 = completely true).

The key is to be 100% honest with yourself, even if you score yourself on the lower end for some items, simply trust that recognising this is the first step toward improving it.

It isn't easy to improve on things that we are either in denial of, or unaware of, therefore you may like to expand your perspective and gather feedback from your peers and direct reports.
