In 2019, Leading from the Middle will launch the first LFM Drive-in Academy. The LFM Drive-in Academy will take place in the Inland Empire and will be open to colleges in the region. The Academy will consist of two 2-day convenings scheduled on February 21-22 and April 18-19, 2019.

The LFM Inland Empire Drive-in Academy will bring together members of the LFM program team and from the Research & Evaluation division of the The RP Group to deliver a curriculum focused on building a culture of evidence and equity through middle leadership. An emphasis will be placed on the following key starting points for Guided Pathways:
  • Leadership skills development
  • Using data and evidence to build a case for Guided Pathways
  • Applying planning and design approaches to promote coherent strategies that integrate Guided Pathways with other institutional initiatives, including equity, student success, basic skills, professional development
  • Developing a broad support coalition
  • Engaging stakeholders who are skeptical and/or opposed to Guided Pathways
  • Developing a culture of inquiry within the framework of Guided Pathways
  • Managing change
Program Requirements
Each college must identify a team of up to five people to participate in the LFM Inland Empire Drive-in Academy. Teams should have at least one representative from each of the following areas:
  • Faculty member or student services professional (classroom instructors, academic support staff, librarian, counselor)
  • Middle level leader (dean, department chair, program director or coordinator, classified staff, Academic Senate leader)
  • Researcher (either from the IRP department or someone with a strong research or assessment background)
The LFM Inland Empire Drive-in Academy has been scheduled for February through April 2019. College teams will need to attend two 2-day face-to-face meetings and work with an LFM coach that will support each participating team. 

The cost for the LFM Inland Empire Drive-in Academy is $300 per participant. This includes registration and food for the convenings which will take place at Chaffey College's Chino Center in Chino, California. The California Community College Chancellor’s Office is providing generous funding to the RP Group and Leading from the Middle Academy to subsidize the cost of the Inland Empire Drive-in Academy.
