Leadership Franklin County Youth: Class of 2027-2028 Application

Application DUE Tuesday January 19, 2027

This Application and two references are due no later than 5pm on Tuesday January 19, 2027. Your two reference mentors should use the link/form on our website to submit by deadline. References cannot be a family member and must be over 21yo.

Due to the high volume of applicants we cannot accept applications after this date.


Leadership Franklin County Youth (LFCY) is a selective leadership program providing learning opportunities to Franklin County high school sophomores (public, private or home school) with the goal of developing youth leaders who are actively engaged in responsible, ethical, and effective leadership. Students apply in their freshman year. The program is free to students because of the generous financial support of Wilson College.

Prior leadership experience is not necessary to apply. All applicants go through an in school interview with LFCY Steering Committee members in February through March 2027. LFCY will chose up to 25 students from the Franklin County area by April 2027. The new class will convene for the first time in late April 2027.

Students should review the program time commitment in Question 2 before applying for this program. Please note that attendance at our orientation & summer retreat is mandatory. Your school leadership will be contacted in advance of interviews to ensure the student applicant's school status (grades/attendance and behavior) permits participation.

2.STUDENT COMMITMENT:
I understand that LFCY monthly session participation is very important in order for me to complete the program and graduate. I understand that sessions will occur during school hours and I will be responsible to communicate in advance with my teachers & arrange for make up work from class time I miss.

If selected for Leadership Franklin County Youth, I understand that the Class Orientation on Tuesday April 27, 2027 (during school time) & Summer Retreat on Tuesday June 8, 2027 are mandatory. I understand that if I am absent from the Orientation and/or Retreat for any reason, I will not be able to participate for the remainder of the LFCY program.

I promise to display mutual respect for my peers/adult facilitators and show a desire for learning new skills and self-improvement.

TRANSPORTATION TO SESSIONS
**PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS
I understand that transportation will be provided for public school students via buses from the sending high school to the Franklin County Career & Tech Center where LFC leadership will meet students and provide van transportation for students to sessions.

**PRIVATE ACADEMY & HOME SCHOOLED STUDENTS
I understand that private or home schooled students will need to find their own monthly transportation to/from LFCY sessions.

**SUMMER RETREAT & VOLUNTEER DAY TRANSPORTATION
I understand all students will need to find transportation to/from the June Retreat and volunteer activity days.

SCHEDULE, ATTENDANCE, ASSIGNMENTS:
I will complete all related assignments as assigned and understand I am required to volunteer with either Scoop-a-Palooza event (July 10, 2027) and/or IceFest Run Your Ice Off 5k (Jan. 30, 2028).

Your application is not complete without two reference submissions. References may be teachers, coaches, school administrators or any other adult that are not a relative. References must submit in our electronic format found at www.chambersburg.org/leadership under the youth program section. We will alert students when their application and references are complete.

The selection committee will work with your school to schedule in-school interviews during Feb./March 2027. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status by April 2027.
