September 2017 Soundings Survey Question Title * 1. Which animal do you think is the best predictor of the weather? Frogs – are known to croak even longer and louder than usual when bad weather is on the horizon. Birds – it is said that they fly high when the weather is clear, but if they’re flying closer to the ground, the air pressure of a storm system is causing them pain at higher altitudes. Cows – it is believed that when they sense bad weather they become restless and antsy and begin to swat flies with their tails or lie down in the pasture to save a dry spot. Bees and Butterflies – it is said you can expect some heavy weather coming your way when bees and butterflies disappear from the flower beds. Sheep – it is believed that you can expect a storm when these animals crowd together and shield each other. Ladybugs – it is said that when they swarm, expect a day that’s warm. Ants - In preparation for bad weather, red and black ants sometimes build up their mounds for extra protection or to cover the mounds’ holes. Groundhogs – it is said if a groundhog see his shadow, it means there will be six more weeks of winter; if not, we can look forward to an early spring. None of the above – animals can’t predict the weather. OK DONE
