Application for The Women's Advancement Initiative LEAD Program at the University of Hartford

The Women's Advancement Initiative's (Leadership Education and Development) program, is a leadership development and career readiness training program for undergraduate women at the University of Hartford. The program is designed to incrementally build throughout your years at University of Hartford so that you have a well-rounded experience and become prepared for success after college. In addition to being a part of a network of students (25-30 students in every graduating class, 100-110 women in the program total), you will also develop skills in a variety of areas such as confidence, decision making, public speaking, professional interviewing, salary negotiation, and much more! The Women’s Advancement Initiative is proud to continue and celebrate the legacy of Hartford College for Women.

We are currently accepting applications to fill 25-30 spots available in the LEAD program for first-year students in the Class of 2028. Last year, 150 applications were received for the 30 positions offered at that time. As this program is highly selective, it is important that selected students acknowledge the tremendous opportunity offered to them and agree to fully engage by committing to attending bi-weekly, one-hour LEAD sessions and at least four Women's Advancement sponsored events each year. Students who are given this opportunity are guaranteed their spot next year in the LEAD program if all requirements are met.

LEAD participants receive the following benefits:

• Participate in an inclusive, supportive, and empowering community
• Interact with University and community leaders, professional women, faculty, staff, upper class students, and alumnae
• Take part in leadership development training
• Attend multiple social programs and events
• Mentoring and/or job shadowing relationships with professional community women
• Gain personal, professional, and practical-life skills development (including but not limited to public speaking, networking, interviewing, resume writing, mentoring, interpersonal communication skills, leadership skills, etc.)
• Become eligible for scholarships to attend leadership and/or professional conferences
• Receive tools and techniques you can use as you navigate college and life’s challenges/opportunities
• Sophomore year, students are eligible for a $100 micro-investment that can be used for professional clothes, tuition, educational books and much more.

Additionally, students who apply and are accepted to the program will attend a Women's Leadership Retreat prior to the start of the school year.
