LeadingAge Washington SNF Non-Operational Beds Survey
Introduction
The purpose of this survey is to help us assess how many skilled nursing facility bed licenses do not currently have a corresponding bed in operation. When the Legislature is determining funding levels for skilled nursing facilities, it looks at access and occupancy as part of that determination. However, the number of bed licenses does not equal the number of operational beds; therefore, the public perceptions about access, available capacity, and utilization are skewed. In order to counter these perceptions, we need your help identifying how many skilled nursing facility beds are actually set up and in use.
Please use the following definitions for the purpose of completing this survey:
“Operational licensed beds”: Licensed beds currently set up and in use.
“Non-operational licensed beds”: Active and renewed bed licenses that currently do not have a corresponding bed set up or in use.
Examples of non-operational licensed beds include:
Not set up: Bed licenses that were initially used in four bed rooms, but the rooms currently have two beds set up and in use. In this case there is no physical bed attached to the license.
Not in use: Licensed beds that may be non-operational due to the inability to meet mandatory staffing levels, building remodels, or other operational changes. In this case, there may or may not be a physical bed attached to the license.
