Introduction

Lantra has an opportunity to work with environmental conservation organisations and with land and estate managers in Scotland to develop new Modern Apprenticeships in "rural skills" at levels 2 & 3. The new frameworks could potentially include pathways for those working in environmental conservation, estate management and maintenance and in dry stone walling. Through this exciting new initiative we aim to provide a flexible route for those working in the conservation of landscapes, habitats and species, in public access and recreation and on the maintenance and management of Scottish estates to learn and apply skills in the workplace.

Part of this process is underway, with Lantra currently reviewing the Environmental Conservation Level 2 and 3 SVQs (Scottish Vocational Qualifications) to ensure that they remain ‘fit for purpose’ and meet the needs of Scotland’s conservation organisations. Also, Scottish Land and Estates, with Scottish Government support, have worked with partners to develop a new Level 2 SVQ in Estate Maintenance and a Level 3 SVQ in Estate Management. We believe these qualifications complement the proposed new frameworks extremely well and propose to include them in the new Modern Apprenticeships at Level 2 and Level 3.

For this development to move forward, it is essential that Lantra can demonstrate industry support. We would therefore like you to help influence the content of the Modern Apprenticeships by answering a series of short questions.
