The development of the renewable energy sector in Victoria has been supported by a range of State Government policies and programs headlined by the Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET) and the VRET 2017 Reverse Auction (Auction). In November 2019, the Victorian Government legislated an increased VRET target of 50 per cent renewable energy generation by 2030 in the Renewable Energy (Jobs and Investment) Act 2017, building on the existing legislated targets of 25 per cent by 2020 and 40 per cent by 2025. The Auction is supporting the development of six new wind and solar projects totalling 928 megawatts of new renewable capacity, generating $1.1 billion in investment and creating more than 900 new jobs while supporting significant new investment in local supply chain and industry development in Victoria.

The Victorian Government is investigating policy options, including potential further market mechanisms, to ensure Victoria remains on track to achieve the 2025 and 2030 VRET targets in a manner that will deliver value for money and energy system benefits, support local economic and industry development and ensure that Victorian communities share in the benefits of the renewable energy transition. This, in turn, will drive the further development of the renewable energy supply chain and create new opportunities for investment in Victoria.

To support this work, the Department of the Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is seeking updated information on the renewable energy supply chain, including capacity and capability, and the identification of strategic opportunities for new investment to build the sector as well as assisting recovery efforts post-COVID-19.

To this end, DELWP has engaged the Industry Capability Network (ICN) to undertake a refresh of the Supply Chain Capability Maps developed in 2017 for the Solar SPV, Onshore Wind and Large-Scale Battery sectors.

ICN has identified your company as a potential supplier to one or more of these sectors. To confirm your interest and capability, we request that you complete the attached questionnaire which includes questions on your current and planned strategies for expansion in the renewable energy industry. Confidential information that you provide on your organisation’s plans and ambitions will remain so and will assist the Victorian Government’s efforts to build a sustainable, local renewable energy industry.

Thank you in advance for your time and contribution to this project, particularly during these challenging times. For any further comment, please contact info@icnvic.org.au.
