Sustainable Supervision Caseloads for Clinicians (Anonymous survey)

This short, anonymous survey is open to all mental health professionals who supervise clinicians in any setting — including private practice, community agencies, hospitals, counseling centers, and more. The goal is to gather insights into what feels like a sustainable and appropriate supervisory caseload. Your input will help build an informal snapshot of supervision norms across settings. No identifying information will be collected. Estimated time: 3-5 minutes. Thank you for contributing!
1.What is your Degree?
2.How many years have you been supervising other mental health clinicians?
3.What is the largest number of clinicians you have supervised at one time?
4.Hypothetical Scenario:
Imagine you are in a management role with three responsibilities:

Administrative duties: policy development, hiring, collaboration with leadership, data tracking.
Clinical supervision: monthly supervision for fully licensed staff, availability for as-needed consults, coaching plans, tracking supervisee caseloads, chart auditing, and leading group supervision/trainings.
Direct clinical work: maintaining a personal caseload of 10 client hours per week.

Supervisees each manage 8–30 clients on their caseloads.

In this scenario, what is the maximum number of clinicians you could reasonably and sustainably supervise?
5.When deciding whether to take on a supervisor role, or to add more supervisees, what factors are most important to you?
6.With ideal clinical and managerial supports in place for both supervisors and supervisees, in your clinical opinion, what is the maximum number of clinicians a supervisor can be expected to supervise on a weekly basis?
7.With ideal clinical and managerial supports in place for both supervisors and supervisees, in your clinical opinion, what is the maximum number of clinicians a supervisor can be expected to supervise on a monthly basis?
8.(Optional) Do you have any additional thoughts, context, or considerations about supervision caseloads or sustainability in supervisory roles?

Feel free to share any experiences, concerns, or insights that you think are important.
