Women's Welding Try-a-Trade Night

Curious about a career in welding or engineering? Join us for a free Women's Welding Try-a-Trade Night, designed for women and non-binary people aged 15 years and over to experience welding and engineering trades in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.

Date: Wednesday, 2nd September 2026
Time: 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: TAFE Gippsland – Yallourn Campus
Cost: Free

Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on exposure to welding, fabrication and engineering trades
- Develop foundational workshop safety knowledge
- Learn basic fabrication and welding techniques
- Read and interpret a simple technical drawing
- Safely use hand tools and basic fabrication equipment
- Create and take home a finished metal project
- Explore career pathways

The evening also includes an interactive discussion on careers in engineering and manufacturing, covering:
- Entry pathways into fabrication, welding, mechanical and engineering trades
- Apprenticeships, traineeships, pre-apprenticeships and short courses
- Typical job roles across the industry
- Career progression opportunities
- What it's really like to work in a trade
