You are being asked to participate in the research project described below. Your participation in this study is voluntary; you may refuse to participate, or you may decide to stop your participation at any time.
Should you refuse to participate or withdraw your consent and stop participating in the study, your decision will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you may be entitled otherwise.
Please read the information below carefully and ask questions about anything you do not understand before deciding whether to participate.
STUDY TITLE: Job satisfaction and Burnout: A comparative study of Intermediate school teachers and College professors.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: This study aims to understand burnout and how job satisfaction varies between educators in Intermediate Schools (5th-8th grade) vs. University College Professors. By analyzing the factors that contribute to burnout and job satisfaction in both educational settings, this study aims to identify key differences and similarities. The findings will provide insights into how job-related stress can have an influence on educators at different levels, ultimately informing strategies to improve teacher well-being, retention, and overall job performance.
ESTIMATED NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: Approximately 150 educators (120 intermediate/middle school teachers (30 5th grade, 30 6th grade, 30 7th grade, 30 8th grade) & 30 college professors.
PROCEDURES FOR PARTICIPANTS: Participants in this study will independently complete an online-survey and answer a set of demographic questions and questionaries in total there are 55 items aimed at evaluating the effects of job satisfaction and burnout as an educator. All participants will be assured of the confidentiality and ethical handling of their responses, reinforcing the safe, anonymous, and voluntary nature of their participation.
EXPECTED DURATION OF PARTICIPATION: 20-30 minutes
RISKS OF PARTICIPATION AND SAFEGUARDS:
As with any survey collecting information, there is a risk of a breach of confidentiality. Furthermore, participants may experience emotional distress during the completion of the survey. However, the information input by participants, in the event of a data breach, cannot be traced back to them, as survey responses are not linked to the participant. Participants are also reminded that participation is voluntary, and consent to participate can be withdrawn at any time during the study. In the event of experiencing mental, emotional or physical distress while completing the survey, participants are encouraged to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Line and SAMHSA’s National Helpline (1-800-662-HELP). Additionally, participants are encouraged to reach out to their institution’s counseling services, should they need to.
POSSIBLE BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATION: No direct benefits.
COMPENSATION: No compensation.
PARTICIPANT PRIVACY: Researchers will not be collecting identifying data such as IP address, date of birth, and names. All data gathered is in a password protected account, which will be via survey monkey. Data will be stored in survey monkey in a password protected account. The data will be stored for three years and then it will be permanently deleted. The faculty sponsor and research group will only have access to the data.
ACCESS TO RECORDS: The following people will have access to study records that do not include your name or other identifying information: Samyia Summers and Nelsy Vera -primary researchers Dr. Crystal Tran PhD – faculty advisor.
CONFIDENTIALITY OF RECORDS: Every effort will be made to keep your study records confidential. The data collected from the study may be used for educational and publication purposes, but you will not be identified by name. The researcher will securely maintain study
records for a minimum of three years, after which the records will be destroyed.
FUTURE USE OF DATA: Data will be used for class presentations, as well as applications to regional conferences and research symposiums. Before the applicants access the survey questions, they will be asked to read over the consent agreement where they are informed about the future use of the data from their participation.
INVESTIGATOR’S RIGHT TO WITHDRAW PARTICIPANT: The researcher has the
right to withdraw you from this study at any time.
