KIAAA AD Award Nominations 2024

Nomination Deadline: Monday, January 29th, 2024


Please take a few minutes to submit nominations below!

PLEASE READ ALL of the information regarding the criteria for each award.  When providing nominations, your explanation of why the nominee deserves the award is critical.  Make sure to address the significant highlights that differentiates this individual from other potential candidates.

IMPORTANT- THOSE BEING RECOGNIZED MUST BE CURRENT KIAAA MEMBERS.

Question Title

* 1. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

Kansas has a large number of athletic directors who do a great job and selection as a KIAAA District Athletic Director of the Year is one way they can be recognized. Note that you view what schools are associated with what congressional district by visiting KIAAA.org under the "RESOURCES" tab.

• Nominations can be made for districts other than your own district
• Consider nominations from another district as well (#1 and #2)
• Nominate a middle school AD (#3)
• To be considered, the nominee must be a member of the KIAAA
• There will be one high school AD of Year recipient for each of the 4 Congressional Districts and one at-large middle school AD of the Year
• The Kansas Athletic Director of the Year will be selected from the District Athletic Director recipients

• Nominate a middle school AD (#3)

• The Kansas Athletic Director of the Year will be selected from the District Athletic Director recipients

* 3. MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AWARD

To be considered for this award, the nominee must be a member of the KIAAA. Take a moment and consider a colleague who would be a deserving recipient of the Middle School AD of the Year Award.

* 4. ART NEWCOMER “PROMISING NEW AD” AWARD

• Must be in 2nd or 3rd year as an AD
• Demonstrates leadership qualities, outstanding work ethic, good communication skills

* 5. ELMER “CARP” CARPENTER AWARD

This award was established in 1980 and named in honor of a gentleman many of us know – Elmer Carpenter. “Carp” was a living force. He was one of the organizers of KIAAA (formerly KHSADA) and served as its first president. “CARP” was the first athletic director at Wichita South High School. He said when he was given the job the he had little idea as to what an athletic director did. In his efforts to learn what to do, Elmer became involved in the development of the first national athletic directors’ group – the National Council of Secondary School Athletic Directors. It is one of a number of councils of the American Alliance of Health, P.E., Recreation, and Dance. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.

Criteria for the Elmer “Carp” Carpenter Award:
• Must have been a leader in the area of athletics, education, or both
• Not necessarily a member of the KIAAA
• A professional in all respects
• A tireless worker
• A community leader
• Need not be awarded each year and may be more than one in a year
• If a person does not win the first year, the name is kept for consideration the following year

* 6. SPORTSWRITER AWARD

If you know of an outstanding sportswriter in your area, perhaps he/she deserves recognition for doing a great job. If so, nominate him/her for this award.
