Wagner Ranch Nature Area - Tell Us What You Think About These 3 Design Concepts

A. Access and Exploring. We want to make this a welcoming place for people of all ages and abilities. This design concept highlights amenities such as hard-surface trails and restrooms serving people with disabilities. Seating areas offer places to stop and rest. Trails with loops allow visitors to select a comfortable walking distance and route. Earthen trails give the more adventurous a chance to wander off the beaten track.

B. Restoring and Stewarding. Another goal is insuring that the site's ecosystems are healthy, safe, and well-maintained. A managed fuel break around the perimeter mitigates the risks of wildfire. Managed grassland areas reduce fuel for potential fires. Native species will be preserved and invasives removed. Work in and along the creek will protect native and special status plants. Other features include riparian plantings, new aquatic habitat, upgrading and adding complexity to the channel, and expanding the flood plain.

C. Learning, Playing, Gathering. A third goal is making the site a special place for visitors. Gathering areas serve as outdoor classrooms. An adventure trail with logs and boulders provides play opportunities for kids, and adults, too. Signage and panels tell stories about the history of the site, and educate visitors about native plants and wild animals. QR codes give greater detail for those seeking a deeper dive. Shade structures make visiting a comfortable experience year-round.
