How to take part:
Watch the birds in your garden for any period between 8 am and 11 am on either Saturday or Sunday.
Note the highest number of each species of bird that you see together at one time during that period – not the total number which enter your garden over the course of the watch.
Try to get up early as the best time to see the most birds and species is early in the morning when they are really hungry.
Put out a varied spread pf food for the birds including sunflower seeds, peanuts, sliced apples, brown bread and even any left-over Christmas cake after the marzipan or icing sugar has been removed.
If you have a cat, please keep it indoors if possible while you do the count so that the birds can feed undisturbed.
