Any pest professionals, technicians, manufacturers or suppliers with experience of mole traps are encouraged to take part in this survey.
This short survey will help BPCA understand how mole traps are used in professional pest management and shape our response to the Government’s planned review. It should take no more than five minutes to complete.
Consultation backgroundIn its recently published Animal Welfare Strategy for England, the Government committed to reviewing the use of mole traps due to concerns about their humaneness.
Unlike many other spring traps used in pest management, mole traps currently sit outside the formal approval system. Under the Small Ground Vermin Traps Order 1958, traps used for moles do not need to be approved under spring trap approval orders.
This means that, at present, the design and manufacture of mole traps is largely unregulated. As a result, poor-quality or ineffective traps can sometimes reach the market.
There is a risk that any future review could lead to tighter regulation, approval requirements or even restrictions on certain trap types. For pest professionals who rely on mole trapping as part of their work, these changes could have practical and operational implications.
BPCA is engaging with policymakers to ensure that professional pest management is properly represented during this process. Your feedback will help us understand how mole traps are used in practice, gather evidence from the sector, and inform BPCA’s response to any future consultation.
We want to understand how mole trapping fits into your work, what types of traps are used, and how any regulatory changes could affect your ability to manage mole damage effectively and humanely.
