Proposed Block 5 Project at Dease Lake Airport: Community Input Requested

The Stikine Airport Society is seeking feedback on a proposed project at Dease Lake Airport that will improve safety, functionality, and access within the existing airport property, all while making environmental improvements.

An area of the airport known as Block 5 currently contains old fuel drums and two small buildings left behind by a previous tenant. These materials are unused, unsafe, and limit the area’s use; we want to change that in 2026.

Project Scope (all within current airport lands):
- Remove unused fuel drums from Block 5
- Demolish and remove two abandoned buildings
- Conduct environmental cleanup of the affected ground
- Pave the front portion of Block 5 to expand the existing apron and provide much-needed additional aircraft parking

Community Benefits:

- Improves safety and reduces environmental impact by removing hazards and cleaning the site
- Provides more reliable aircraft parking for:
  • Medical evacuation and emergency response flights
  • Charter and community service flights
  • Visiting aircraft supporting tourism and local businesses
- Makes better use of existing airport space without extending beyond current boundaries
- Supports essential air access for Dease Lake community and the surrounding region
- Enhances the overall appearance of Dease Lake by removing unsightly buildings and fuel containers, helping to create a welcoming and positive impression for visitors, tourists, and the local community

This project is directly in line with the Airport Master Plan, and will enhance the airport’s safety and utility to better serve the community while keeping all work within the current airport footprint.
