Please feel free to check items you are already doing and will continue to do! Perform a wellhead survey to make sure that the area around your well is free and clear from hazards. Have your yearly water testing done in 2019 at an independent water testing laboratory on this list. Bring reusable shopping bags to the grocery store. Bring a reusable water bottle and/or hot beverage mug to work and/or school. Carry reusable straws when you visit local restaurants. Learn and follow the proper household hazardous waste disposal guidelines from the RI Resource Recovery Center. Start or continue a compost pile or vermiculture bin for your home or farm. Use a rain barrel or rain garden to minimize the amount of stormwater from your home that runs down the road. Allow your lawn to grow to 3" or higher so that its deep root system will allow more water to infiltrate into the ground. Have your soil tested by UMass Amherst or a similar lab so you know how much fertilizer you really need. Reduce or eliminate your lawn fertilizer use. Plant trees, a vegetable garden, or native wildflowers on your land or near your home. Purchase bath and body products that do not contain microbeads. Clean up after your dog every walk, and daily in the backyard. Properly dispose of medications at a drop box. If you have farm or forest land, work with Northern Rhode Island Conservation District to learn about how you can practice conservation on your land. Other (we love to hear your ideas!)
