Title of Research Study: Impact of Inflation on Parental Stress and Parental Involvement Among Parents of School-aged Children
Principal Investigator: Cliff Yung-Chi Chen, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Educational and Community Programs, Queens College of the City University of New York

Key Information: The purpose of this research study is to understand the impact of inflation on parents of school-aged children. You will be asked to report your experiences with inflation, as well as your roles as a parent. The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The information we collect from you as part of this study will not be used or distributed for future research. This research study has been approved by the CUNY IRB (#2022-0723-QC).

You are being asked to participate in this research study because you are a parent of school-aged children. The purpose of this research study is to understand the impact of the current inflation on parents’ financial and psychological states. If you agree to participate, we will ask you to complete an online survey that takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. All the contact information, including e-mail addresses, will be kept in a separate file from your survey responses. You will have a chance to enter a drawing for one of the ten $15 Amazon gift cards for completing the survey.

No more than minimal risks are anticipated with this study. Some questions in the questionnaire may induce some emotional discomfort; however, it is expected to be minimal. Although there may be no actual benefits to you, the potential benefits to the society include a better understanding of the effects of inflation on families with school-aged children, which can help policy makers, schools, and agencies develop interventions. Potential risks of participating in this study include breach of confidentiality and privacy. However, we will make our best efforts to maintain confidentiality of any information that is collected during this research study. We will protect your confidentiality by not asking your name in the survey. Again, the email you entered in the survey will be separated from your survey responses. All data will be kept confidential and will only be reported in a conglomerate format (only reporting combined results and never reporting individual results). All data will be stored in the principal investigator’s password protected computer at Queens College.

Your participation in this research is voluntary. If you have any questions, you can contact Dr. Cliff Yung-Chi Chen at yungchi.chen@qc.cuny.edu. If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant or if you would like to talk to someone other than the researchers, you can contact CUNY Research Compliance Administrator at 646-664-8918 or HRPP@cuny.edu.
