2025 Athena Award Nomination

The Athena Award is presented annually by the City of Athens to an individual, organization, or agency for excellence in enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and for making significant contributions to the City of Athens on their behalf.

Award recipients will be recognized for achievement in one or more of the following areas:
  • Improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities
    Advocacy for issues pertaining to individuals with disabilities
  • Volunteering that has a positive impact on individuals with disabilities
  • Development of new programs or services impacting individuals with disabilities
  • Customer service to individuals with disabilities that is above and beyond the standard
  • Innovation or Entrepreneurship by an individual with a disability or who has a positive impact on individuals with disabilities
To make a nomination:
  • Complete and submit this nomination form
  • Include a list of 2-6 folks who would support this nomination, along with contact information
If you would prefer to complete a paper form and send it to the mayor's office, please print the Athena Award Nomination Form and follow the directions given there.

Please note: Current Commissioners are not eligible to be nominated for the Athena Award. The Commission on Disabilities designates a committee to review submissions and select the top nominees. Commissioners vote from the top nominees for the award recipient. The top nominee is then forwarded on to the City of Athens Mayor for final approval.

Recipients are honored on a date and location selected by the Award Committee and approved by the Mayor - This year is Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 5:00 p.m., Athens Community Center.
