Before you begin, please review the following important information:
Purpose of the Study:
This study is interested in understanding how paranoia influences the health decisions Black Americans make. I am particularly interested in understanding Black women's mistrust of birth control and Black gay* men's mistrust of PrEP.
What You Will Be Asked to Do:
For this study, you will participate in a 3 hour focus group to discuss your thoughts and experiences with either birth control or PrEP. You will also be asked to complete two surveys that will take approximately 5-10 minutes. A 30 minute break with catered lunch will be provided. You will receive $20 for your participation after the completion of both the focus group and both surveys. Your participation in this research is voluntary. You have the right to withdraw at any point during the study.
Confidentiality:
All responses to this sign-up form will be kept confidential. Data will be stored securely and only used for purposes of recruiting potential focus group participants. Only the Principal Investigator (Devon) will have access to all raw research data.
Eligibility:
In order to qualify for this study you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Identify as either a Black woman or Black gay, queer, same gender loving (SGL), or man who has sex with men (MSM).
- Be willing to share healthcare experiences in a group setting
- Able to travel to University of Maryland College Park campus for focus groups
- Agree to be audio recorded during focus groups
