This year’s Energy Storage Awards 2024, celebrating excellence in the European industry, comes with a new twist.

Just like at last year’s inaugural event, a carefully hand-picked panel of expert judges will choose the deserving winners of awards across more than 20 categories, to be handed over on 21 November 2024 in London.

However, Energy-Storage.news, and our industry-leading Energy Storage Summit event series around the world, have always relied on you, the industry, to help shape our direction.

This time out, we’d like your input in choosing the winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Energy Storage Award, from our shortlist of nominations below.

Bridgit Hartland-Johnson, Ørsted

Bridgit has been an absolute powerhouse in the systems integration landscape. She's a pioneer in idea creation and project development, focusing on projects that will have a real impact to the energy mix in the UK. She works tirelessly to push the vision for the future of the UK grid, with both short and long-term storage projects.
On a personal level, she is an inspiration to so many of those around her and has not just spoken about diversity but (more importantly) actioned it - pulling up underrepresented talent across the business and propelling them in their careers through work on her exciting cross-disciplinary projects.

Benedikt Deuchert, Kyon Energy

Benedikt Deuchert is intensively involved in the further development of the German regulatory framework for battery energy storage systems. His aim is to make the framework conditions as non-discriminatory and investment-friendly as possible in order to facilitate the urgently needed expansion of storage capacities in Germany. Through his continuous exchange with politicians and grid operators, he has succeeded in recent years in bringing the importance of BESS more into the focus of the energy transition debate. His expertise has been recognized by the German Bundestag, where he was invited to the Energy Committee as a storage expert. There, he was able to impressively explain why the expansion of storage systems in Germany urgently needs to be accelerated and put on the political agenda.

Dr. Paloma Almodovar, Zelestium Technologies

Dr. Paloma Almodóvar’s outstanding contributions to the field of energy storage, her dedication to mentoring and guiding others, and her innovative research make her a deserving candidate for the "Outstanding Contribution to Energy Storage Award." Her work not only advances the scientific community but also sets a high standard for others to follow. Her extensive career, groundbreaking research, and dedication to mentoring the next generation of scientists make her an exemplary candidate

Dr. Imre Gyuk, Department of Energy

Dr. Imre Gyuk has devoted more than three decades to the innovation and advancement of grid energy storage technologies, systems, safety, policy, markets, finance, and ecosystems, including up to the present day. Dr. Gyuk began his work on the innovation and advancement of energy storage in 1987 as the Director, Energy Storage Research, of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Electricity (DOE OE).

In 2023, Dr. Gyuk was named Chief Scientist for Energy Storage Research at DOE OE. Throughout his many years of sustained work dedicated to energy storage, Dr. Gyuk has helped many others to progress in the energy storage field and set an example for many more to follow.

Semih Oztreves, Zenobē Energy

Semih leads teams of over 40 people across Business Development, Project Development, Route to Market, Commercial and Engineering teams for large-scale battery storage business globally at Zenobē. He is responsible for accelerating the growth of the business while shaping the markets and optimising revenues for operational assets. He brings twelve years’ experience of battery storage systems and energy markets. Semih has overseen the site finding and planning application process on behalf of Zenobē. Despite a complex planning process in challenging environments, 1.4GW worth of sites have secured planning. In tandem with the planning process, Semih has led on the procurement process, bringing together market leading suppliers including Wärtsilä Energy Storage and Optimization, SMA, Fluence and GE to deliver projects in accordance with the planning schedule.

Dr. Jianhui Zhang, Hyperstrong

In 2011, Dr. Zhang founded Beijing HyperStrong Technology Co., Ltd., developing it as an industry-leading provider of energy storage system solutions and technical services. He is one of the first pioneering innovators on energy storage technology in China. HyperStrong offers comprehensive one-stop solutions, including the development, design, integration, and operation of energy storage power stations. Under his leadership, HyperStrong has become one of the top 5 ESS integrators worldwide in terms of project scale as of July 2023. HyperStrong has been ranked in BloombergNEF Energy Storage Tier 1 list for Q2 and Q3 of 2024. For three consecutive years, the Electric Energy Storage Alliance (EESA) has ranked HyperStrong as the top ESS player by shipment volume in the Chinese market. Wood Mackenzie ranked HyperStrong as one of the top5 ESS integrators worldwide in 2023. These achievements and accolades reflect Dr. Zhang's commitment to excellence in the energy storage sector.
