Community input is essential when planning and building a recreation centre as it ensures the facility reflects the needs, interests and priorities of the people who will use it the most. Completing the survey will help create a space that supports all ages, abilities, and activities for our area.

SAMPLE SCENARIOS:

WHAT WOULD A RENOVATION OR REHABILITATION OF THE EXISTING SPORTS PALACE ENTAIL?
- securing the glulam beams that support the roof
- addressing the water infiltration from the exterior
- asbestos abatement
- improving the bleachers
- replacing the roof
- option of 4 sheets, 2 sheets or elimination of the curling surfaces
- concession
- 1 ice surface in the Sports Palace
- no additional square feet are added for new recreational activities. No addition of a gymnasium or fieldhouse (basketball, volleyball, badminton etc)

WHAT WOULD A REPLACEMENT OF ONLY THE SPORTS PALACE ENTAIL?
- demolition of the Sports Palace and abatement
- construction of a new facility
- option of 4 sheets, 2 sheets, or elimination of the curling surfaces
- meeting rooms / play spaces (limited)
- lobby built connecting the Sports Palace and Gordon Buchanan Centre (one main entrance)
- some renovations to the Gordon Buchanan Centre
- option of 1 ice surface between both facilities and the addition of a gymnasium (fieldhouse) or 2 ice surfaces and no gymnasium (fieldhouse)
- concession
- 1 or 2 ice surfaces in High Prairie


WHAT WOULD A MULTI-RECREATIONAL FACILITY ENTAIL?
- renovation of the Gordon Buchanan Centre and demolition and replacement of the Sports Palace
- could include gymnasium (basketball, pickleball etc)
- multi-purpose rooms for community use
- fitness centre
- walking / running track
- lobby built connecting the Sports Palace and Gordon Buchanan Centre
- may include the library, museum and Golden Age Centre
- meeting rooms, play spaces, youth areas
- concession with seating
- 1 or 2 ice surfaces


WHAT IS THE OPERATION IMPACT OF A MULTI PURPOSE FACILITY ?
While there may be energy cost efficiencies and fewer maintenance costs over the 1st to 10th year, this larger facility will require more staff to operate. If the Town of High Prairie has 1 or 2 ice surfaces, a gymnasium etc, the costs will vary over time.
