Informed Consent

You are invited to participate in a study being conducted by Anne Higgins and Haley Merritt from the University of Rio Grande. We hope to obtain 80+ participants, aged 18 years or older. Before agreeing to participate in this study, we urge you to read this form and contact us with any questions that you may have. Contact information is provided below.

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Locus of Control and scores for Angry Driving. You will first be asked to answer questions regarding your outlook on how the world effects your actions or thoughts. Then, you will be asked to answer a series of questions regarding your driving tendencies.

Your response will remain anonymous and disconnected from your name, address, and E-Mail address. Your responses will be kept in a password secured file to help protect your identity to a further extent. Once you have read this document, you will be given the chance to continue and participate in the study, or to withdraw from the study. The researchers will not be able to access your specific information because all entries will be submitted in summary form, meaning individual responses will not be able to be accessed.

Your participation is voluntary and your decision to participate or not participate will not affect any further relationship you plan to have with the University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. If for any reason you feel the need to withdraw from the study midway through, this is completely acceptable and you will not be penalized. Just close the browser and your entry will be disregarded. You are able to skip any question(s) that you feel uncomfortable answering. Your participation should take approximately 35-45 minutes.

Hopefully, through this study, it will help to give you more of an idea about your overall self and how you feel the world affects you and how your driving is effected by your outlook on the world. We will not be directly compensating you for your participation in this study.

We expect no more than minimal risk to you in this study. Some questions might arouse unpleasant feelings but do not expect these feelings or emotions to last. We hope to avoid any discomfort for all participants during this study, but if you do experience these feelings in the study, feel free to exit the browser at any time during the study. In case of emergency or if you feel the need to address your feelings about this study, you can locate a local counselor through the website, http://locator.apa.org/. We encourage all participants to print this page for documentation or records.

The last page of the survey will be used to debrief all participants and help to explain further the details of this study. Our hypotheses will also be provided post-study. If you have any questions about the study, feel free to contact Anne Higgins (s300718763@students.rio.edu) or Haley Merritt (s300714646@students.rio.edu).

This project has been approved by Doctor William Rogers at the University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. Please note that in agreeing to participate in this study does not waive any legal right to which you are otherwise entitled to.
