Sustainability Leadership Council: Symposium Proposal Submission

Student poster presentations & short talks

The Sustainability Leadership Council is hosting its inaugural symposium on April 17, 2020 on the Homewood Campus. The theme is "Earth Day at 50: Renewing JHU’s commitment to a livable planet". We are now accepting abstracts for poster presentations and short talks. Two students will be chosen to give a short talk (10 minutes, TED-style, with a Q&A session afterward).

Judging Criteria
Poster abstracts will be judged based on the following criteria:
  • Does the abstract provide an understanding of the background and significance of the topic area while avoiding jargon?
  • Is the topic and significance exciting and appropriate for a non-specialist sustainability audience?
  • Is the topic actionable and/or is it clear the reader will walk away with a new perspective on a topic related to sustainability?
In addition to the criteria above for the talk abstracts, 90 second video previews will be judged based on the following criteria:
  • Did the oration make the audience want to know more?
  • Did the presenter have a logical flow of information?
  • Did the speaker have sufficient stage presence, eye contact and vocal range, maintain a steady pace, and have a confident stance?
Submission Deadline: This survey must be submitted with all required information by March 10, 2020.

Notification: Presenters will be notified via email of abstract status by March 20, 2020.
