The purpose of this survey is to collect feedback on the proposed selected Minnesota Academic Standards, extended benchmarks, access points, and item specifications related to the rewritten Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Science. Your participation in the survey is voluntary and you may exit the survey at any time. It may take an hour or more to read the test specifications and provide comments, and we appreciate your commitment of time and effort. As you review, keep in mind that positive comments are helpful as well. We will collect feedback through January 24, 2021.

The Science Alternate Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (Alt MCA), the statewide alternate assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities (SCD), will begin assessing new standards in the spring of 2024. In collaboration with a committee of Minnesota educators, MDE has drafted the Science Alt MCA Test Specifications to assist with the development of the new assessments. The draft specifications are posted on the Test Specifications page of the MDE website. You will need to download them prior to responding to the survey.

The Minnesota Academic Standards in Science were rewritten in 2019 using current science education principles found in A Framework for K-12 Science Education. A Framework emphasizes the inclusion of three dimensions (Scientific and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas) within science standards, curriculum, and instruction.

We invite you to review the proposed selected standards, extended benchmarks, access points and item specifications and provide feedback through this survey. Your feedback is important to help us revise and improve the test specifications draft and to create the best assessment possible for students with SCD. Minnesota Department of Education program staff will combine your individual responses with other participants' responses and share them only as an anonymous group response. No personally identifiable information will be included. If you have any questions about the survey, how your responses will be used, or how Statewide Testing will maintain the confidentiality of your responses, please contact me below.

Thank you for your interest and participation.
