Tech Skills Survey

Grades 9-12

Please complete the following short survey about your technology skills. There are 35 skills described that are considered important for 9-12th grade students.
1.I can collaborate on documents and presentations with others using Google Drive or Microsoft Office.
2.I can create a visual or graphic display (graphic organizer) that shows the relationships between facts, terms and/or ideas.
3.I can use the following Boolean search commands to perform efficient searches (and, or, not, and not).
4.I can use effective search strategies for locating and retrieving electronic information.
5.I can search using advanced search techniques, such as Google advanced search.
6.I can use citation making resources to properly credit a source online (music, videos, written content, photos, research, generative AI, etc.).
7.I can use critical thinking strategies to determine the credibility of search results and generative AI outputs.
8.I can enter data into a spreadsheet and can create graphs and/or charts of the data.
9.I can select digital tools to analyze, organize and present data (e.g. spreadsheet, presentation, poster, mindmap, infographic, etc.).
10.I can use and modify databases and spreadsheets to analyze data, make predictions, draw conclusions, and propose solutions.
11.I can use citation making resources to properly credit a source online (music, videos, written content, photos, research, generative AI, etc.).
12.I can write correct in text citations and reference lists for text and images gathered from electronic sources.
13.I can make strategic use of digital media applications and tools to communicate my ideas with others.
14.I can solve big problems by breaking them into smaller parts, finding patterns, focusing on the important details, and making step-by-step plans.
15.I can enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to keep my accounts safer online.
16.I can troubleshoot many of the basic technology problems by trying basic fixes: restart, run anti-virus, check cords, clear cache and cookies, install updates, remove programs or extensions, do backups.
17.I can manage my digital footprint to show how I engage positively with others.
18.I can understand the positive and negative effects that social media can have on one's life, and understand that it is mostly negative.
19.I can use a design thinking process to identify and solve a real-world problem with others (empathize - define - ideate- prototype - test).
20.I can use 3D design tools to create prototypes, models and simulations to demonstrate solutions and ideas.
21.I can use digital tools to apply and promote myself for a job.
22.I can use digital tools to create timelines of people, historical events, etc. to organize information sequentially.
23.I can understand all the rules and guidelines in the school's Technology Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
24.I can understand Fair Use guidelines and its appplication to all forms of work.
25.I can transfer the information learned from online sources into my own words.
26.I can use a blockbased visual programming interface to build a game, tell a story, or solve a problem (e.g. Minecraft and Scratch).
27.I can make informed decisions by knowing that personal data can be tracked with cookies, search algorithms, website analytics, and GPS on my devices.
28.I can use synchronous collaboration tools such as video conferencing to connect with others.
29.I can use a course or learning management system to access class pages, class calendars, portfolios, and grades.
30.I can use features of a course or learning management system such as discussion forums, polls, wikis, etc. to access and complete assignments.
31.I can understand the difference between CC and BCC and use them appropriately when using email.
32.I can proofread and edit writing using built-in resources (e.g. dictionary, spell checker, thesaurus, grammar check).
33.I can locate and adjust privacy settings in the applications I use.
34.I can use social media tools to connect, collaborate, and share in a socially responsible manner.
35.I can work, collaborate and communicate respectfully with others online who have different viewpoints (cultural, geographical, personal) in an unbiased way.
