Thank you for taking our survey. We are researching a customer need related to reverse engineering. Specifically customers have asked us for the ability to compare a SOLIDWORKS model to a mesh model where the SOLIDWORKS model was made to recreate or reverse engineer the mesh model. Note, the source of the mesh model may be output from freeform modeling software, output from a scanner, a low resolution export from another CAD system, a download from an online file sharing site, output from topology optimization, output from simulation, etc...
 
Please answer the questions below related to your thoughts on mesh compare.
1.Is the need to compare a CAD model to a mesh file a need that you have, have had in the past or think you will have in the future?
2.What are the common sources of mesh files for you? Select all that apply.
3.If you have the need for mesh compare, Do you (or will you) build the SOLIDWORKS model based on the mesh file?
4.Are the (or would the) SOLIDWORKS model and the mesh model located in the same file?
5.Do you (or will you) use the mesh file as geometric reference for the SOLIDWORKS model? i.e. sketch relations to the mesh file (new in SW2018) or import the mesh file as a solid or surface and make geometric references to that body?
6.For this comparison, are the mesh model and the SOLIDWORKS model usually co-located? i.e. do you (or will you) build the SOLIDWORKS model on top of the mesh file?
7.Other than comparing the size and shape of the SOLIDWORKS model to the mesh model, is there anything else that you would like to do when you compare the SOLIDWORKS model to the mesh model?
8.Do you have other comments that you would like to make regarding the customer need to compare a CAD file to a mesh file?
