The Edison Neighborhood Safe Halloween event is proposed for S. Washington Street this year as a way to celebrate trick-or-treating from lighted trucks and social service agencies along with a “real” trick or treating event along S. Washington. The street will be closed for the party component (trunk-o-treating, food, kid’s activities) and then at 6:00 p.m. kids will be invited to also trick-or-treat along S. Washington street at designated houses depicted by event signs. The event starting location on S. Washington, from Portage to the driveway access of the Edison Neighborhood Office is designed as a way to provide a block party atmosphere and visible celebration of a Safe Halloween. In this location, social service agencies, lighted trucks, and activity tents will provide a “candy” celebration event.
The purpose of this event is to strategically designate a safe street for kids to have the ability to visit homes that are supportive of the long-standing tradition. The participating homes on S. Washington are supported with delivery of candy and a sign that helps to designed a participating location. This is an effort to provide Edison Neighborhood families with the directed opportunity for trick-or-treating in their neighborhood with a walkable, supported event. It is important to note that S. Washington has been designed as a focused programed street where efforts are being made to calm the traffic and engage residents in neighborhood building initiatives.
