Vocational Rehabilitation
Please explain your experience related to employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
I've spent the past 22 years working in the field of disability employment. During those 22 years, I've served in different capacities at Vocational Rehabilitation, including: VR counselor, Director of Community Rehabilitation Programs, Director of CRPs and Workforce Development, Manager of Workforce Implementation, and I’m currently the Coordinator of Programs. I've had the opportunity to assist individuals in obtaining competitive integrated employment, work with employers to diversify their workforce to include persons with disabilities, assist in developing programs to support inclusive employment, and worked on making changes to current policy to promote flexibility service delivery options for participants utilizing VR to obtain competitive integrated employment.
Why are you interested in serving on the APSE MO Governing Board?
I’m interested in serving on the board because I get to be surrounded by people who share my passion for disability employment. I also believe in the mission of the board and want to contribute to advocacy efforts that promote inclusivity in the workplace. Being on the board: builds my awareness of legislative happenings, including concerns and advocacy, keeps me connected to other board members’ and especially their perspectives, based on t their agency and personal experiences, brings a platform to create & attend training opportunities such as professional development day and the annual summit, and continuously helps me grow as a person, both professionally and personally.
What do you feel you would bring to APSE MO while serving as a board member?
I believe that my work experience in VR encompasses both frontline experience as a counselor and administrative experience working with community rehabilitation programs, WIOA partners, and policy. Additionally, I would bring advocacy to the table; I believe in doing what’s right and growing programs to achieve state-wide access, as well as building programs to foster greater inclusivity.
