Purpose
Kawerau District Council has prepared the following Proposed Plan Change 5 to the Operative Kawerau District Plan.
The Proposed Plan Change 5 - (District Boundary Change matters) incorporates:
· Zoning of land transferred to Kawerau District (as part of the Boundary Re-organisation in September 2024)
· Updating the Significant Natural Areas (previously known as Natural Heritage Sites/Areas)
· Introduce a (New) Māori Purpose Zone
· Amend Zoning Maps
All other provisions remain unchanged.
Please note Kawerau District Council must receive submissions by 5.00pm 5 July 2026.

Next Steps
After submissions close, Council will prepare and publicly notify the availability of a summary of submissions and where they can be inspected. Further submissions in support or, or in opposition to, the submissions already made can be made by any person representing a relevant public interest, has an interest greater than the general public or the local authority. Those who make a submission will have an opportunity to be heard at a hearing.
Decisions on the matters raised in submission will be notified publicly and served on all submitters.
