Development Services Group (DSG) in 2015 assessed the needs of grantees under the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP) three youth violence prevention (YVP) initiatives: the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention, Community-Based Violence Prevention Program, and Defending Childhood Initiative. Grantees indicated a need for increasing faith- and community-based organizations’ (FCBO) engagement and capacity building. OJJDP in 2016 under a new initiative—the Faith and Community-Based Youth Violence Prevention Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Initiative—tasked DSG with exploring the TTA needs of FCBOs from all active YVP sites, including the newest YVP initiative, Safe and Thriving Communities. This report summarizes those findings and offers recommendations for TTA tailored to the needs of FCBOs.
FCBOs are engaged in a range of violence prevention programming, both inside and outside the walls of its organization. The TTA needs emerged around two central themes: 1) implementing programs and practices that heal and prevent more pain and 2) developing and sustaining strategies for success.
Results of the survey will allow us to identify specific topical areas we can provide the necessary TTA to support organizational capacity and sustainability. We are anticipating conducting the first TTA session in early 2018 as a result of this survey.
This survey will only take 3-5 minutes of your time and will be open through December 1, 2017
