1. Naming the Sci Tech Gym in Honor of the Late Kamari "Coach" Williams

Known to most simply as “Coach,” Kamari Williams served as Head Coach of the men’s varsity basketball team at The High School of Science and Technology from 2014 until his untimely death in April of 2020.

Coaching and mentoring youth was a call that  Coach Williams  answered early in his life and career, having worked at Holyoke/Springfield/Chicopee Head Start as a Family Outreach Coordinator, the Detention Diversion Advocacy Program in Springfield, and the former Northern Educational Services Program.

Most recently,  Coach Williams served as an Adjustment Counselor at Springfield High School while also serving has Head Coach of the Sci-Tech Cybercats. He was a member of the Western Massachusetts Association of Basketball Officials.

Coach Williams' own athletic career began as early as age five and included varsity high school and college competition.

Although he was very competitive, Coach Williams showed great sportsmanship and humility on and off the basketball court throughout his life. He was awarded the William G. Wise Sportsmanship award while playing high school basketball.

In honor of legacy that Coach Williams has left behind; as a tribute to the great academic and athletic contributions he made to the High School of Science and Technology; and as a constant reminder of the morals, values, dedication and potential our students should seek to emulate, the Springfield School Committee has put forth a proposal to name the gymnasium at the High School of Science and Technology in honor of Coach Kamari Williams.

Please share with us your opinion of our plans to honor the late Coach Kamari Williams.
