Keep America Beautiful, the nation's iconic community improvement nonprofit organization, inspires and educates people to take action every day to improve and beautify their community environment. We envision a country where every community is a clean, green and beautiful place to live.

Keep America Beautiful recognizes those law enforcement professionals who have exceeded the duty requirements expected of their position and have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service in their approaches to enforcement of environmental laws and regulations. Award applications should include lifetime accomplishments and efforts.

This award may recognize one or more individuals in the following categories:
  • Law Enforcement Officer or Criminal Investigator
  • Environmental/Code Compliance Officer or Inspector
  • Department/Divisions
  • Prosecutor/Attorney
  • Judge
 
Judging: 
Winners will be selected by a volunteer panel of current and past affiliates, Keep America Beautiful leaders, and, when applicable, Keep America Beautiful National Staff. Judges may request additional materials.  Award winners may not be selected in every category.  All winners will be notified by Dec. 1, 2017.  Awards will be presented at Keep America Beautiful’s National Conference, Jan. 17-19, 2018, in Dallas, Texas.

Background (15 points): Provide a profile of the individual or group including history of sustained engagement with a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, if applicable, or other community organization(s). Include the individual’s or group's law enforcement position (Law Enforcement Officer or Criminal Investigator; Environmental/Code Compliance Officer or Inspector; Department/Division; Prosecutor/Attorney; or Judge).

* 5. Leadership (40 points): Describe leadership efforts, innovative projects or programs the individual has developed, what was required to accomplish the program/project, such as partnership or collaborations established and best practices developed, and the long-term impact on the community. Please share a summary of accomplishments and any other information about the applicant showing their commitment to litter prevention, illegal dumping and/or graffiti prevention, beautification, waste reduction and recycling. Include professional recognition, i.e., membership in related organizations, certifications or other environmental recognition, training participation.

Community Achievements (35 points):  Describe how, through their involvement, the quality of life in the community has been enhanced.  Provide specific examples that may include metrics, property transformation, and/or behavior that has been changed and/or sustained, e.g., areas are staying cleaner.  Describe actions that support the Keep America Beautiful mission "to inspire and educate individuals to take action every day to improve and beautify their community environment."

* 7. Summation (5 points):  Provide two to three sentences summarizing the nominated individual’s achievements and leadership and explaining how their efforts have made their community a cleaner, greener, more beautiful place to live.
