Overview

In the spring of 2019, American Trails is partnering with Central New York communities to host the 24th International Trails Symposium (ITS) in Syracuse, New York. During this 4 day event over 800 individuals from throughout the United States and across the world will participate in more than 90 workshops and 10 site visits exploring every imaginable facet of recreational trail design, development, and management.

In support of American Trails’ vision of advancing the development of diverse, high- quality trails and greenways for the benefit of people and communities, we are looking for partners throughout the area to support our efforts in establishing a Regional Trail Training Program (RTTP). Upon its implementation, the RTTP will benefit the Central New York Trail Community with an increased ability to be stewards of the current and future recreational trails throughout the region. Our hope at American Trails is to provide to the Central New York communities which so graciously supported the ITS a sustainable model for increasing the number of trail stewards in the community.

Sustainable trails are a result of comprehensive trail planning, design, construction, and management. The following questions are designed to identify training needs for the trail community and support content development for a Regional Trail Training Program. Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.
