Reducing solid waste and litter are important community priorities in Truckee. To support these priorities, the Town has been working with different members of the community to consider opportunities to reduce the use of single-use foodware and polystyrene foam. We would love your input through a brief, 3-minute survey. As a business owner, your comments are crucial to the process. Your feedback will help to inform the final recommendations that will be considered by the Truckee Town Council this summer.

From January-June 2022, a Town-appointed single-use foodware reduction working group held six public meetings to consider opportunities to reduce the use of single-use foodware and foam polystyrene.  One of the working group’s recommendations is to ban the sale or distribution of foam polystyrene. Polystyrene that is encased in a more durable material (such as non-disposable coolers or hard bike helmets) would not be subject to this ban.
