Psychological Needs and Leisure Activities

 

The purpose of this research study is to explore the relationship between people’s psychological needs and what they do in their leisure time. The sample will include approximately 120 individuals. If you choose to participate, you will be asked to answer some questions about various needs that you may have (53 items) and to answer some questions about yourself and what you do in your leisure time (12 items). Altogether your participation should take no longer than 30 minutes. Your participation in this study involves no reasonably foreseeable risks and will provide no direct benefits or compensation to you, though the study will provide a better understanding of the relationship between leisure activities and needs. Please read the following information before beginning the survey.

I agree to participate in the research conducted by Larry Z. Daily and his research associates. I understand that the proposed research has been reviewed by the Shepherd University Institutional Review Board and that to the best of their ability they have determined that the procedures involve no invasion of my rights of privacy, nor do they incorporate any procedure or requirements which may be found morally or ethically objectionable. I understand that my participation in this research is voluntary, that I may refuse to participate, and that I may terminate my participation in this study without penalty.

I understand that my anonymity will be maintained in analysis and reporting. Though SurveyMonkey automatically records potentially identifiable information (e.g., my IP address), recording of that information will be disabled. Thus, no person identifiable data will be collected from me by the researchers. I understand that following completion of the research, all data from the study will be downloaded from SurveyMonkey and stored on a password-protected computer and that only Larry Z. Daily and other members of his research team will have access to the data from this study.

I understand that in consenting to participate, I give Larry Z. Daily and his research associates permission to present this work, both in written and oral form, without further permission from me.
