Form IRB-6: General Informed Consent to Participate in Research

You are asked to participate in a research study conducted by Izabella Bagdasarian from Woodbury University. You were selected as a possible participant in this study because you are an adult over the age of 18 years old. Your decision to participate in this research study is entirely up to you; please read the following carefully before agreeing to proceed.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between media and sexual attitudes and behaviors. The study will be an online survey that will ask  young adults to reflect on their media use and sexual attitudes.  

If you volunteer to participate in this study, we will ask you to do the following: For individuals choosing to participate, you will follow a link to an online survey where you will first read and have the option to agree to the informed consent form. Next, you will complete a series of self-report measures.The study should take about 15 minutes to complete.  

Though the risks of participating are minimal, you may experience psychological discomfort when asked about sexual behaviors, to minimize these risks know that you can skip questions or stop at any time.

There is no direct benefit to the you taking the questionnaire.  The benefits may be applied to society to have a better understand how sexulaized content in the media has an effect on adolescents attitude and behavior many years after viewing it. You will receive no payment for your participation.

Data will be electronically survey monkey. No identifying information will be collected (e.g., names); instead, all participants will be identified with a unique numerical identifier. Once data collection is complete, all electronic data will be stored on a password protected laptop. Further, the data file will be password protected and the laptop will have up to date antivirus software.  Data will be available to researcher Izabella Bagdasarian and supervisor Dr. J. Christensen.  Once the research is completed all electronic data will be deleted off the Survey Monkey website once data collection is complete and will be completely de-identified and stored on a laptop for at least 3 years after data collection has finished.

You can choose whether to be in this study or not, and you are not waiving any legal rights through your participation.  If you volunteer to be in this study, you may withdraw your consent at any time and discontinue your participation without penalty.
