Études for Solo Contemporary/Avant-garde Guitar: Alex Taylor and Jake Church

This survey aims to gather data from a sample pool of guitarists to attain an approximation of content and value in creating a set of New Zealand 'Études for Solo Contemporary/Avant-garde Guitar'. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this survey.

The purpose of this project is to create an educational resource for both guitarists and composers. These études will explore a range of extended (contemporary/avant-garde) techniques as timbral motifs, viewed as necessary compositional materials rather than ornamental colours.

We hope that by focusing on these individual techniques, guitarists and composers may expand both their technical toolkit and aesthetic palette. Ideally, we would like to bridge a gap between the traditional repertoire and some seemingly less-accessible contemporary literature to increase the number of New Zealand performers learning, performing and commissioning new works.
